“If you … can come to work on time, not steal from us, not show up drunk, then come in and see us today,” reads the ad written by Charmaine Rose, owner of high-end lingerie stores La Belle Femme in Edmonton and Sherwood Park AB, Canada
Rose said she wrote the full-page ad out of sheer frustration after she had employees steal from her and swear at customers.
"I've had 50-year-olds coming to work drunk and missing shifts after payday, and basically saying to me, 'I know what the job market is like and I can basically pick up 10 positions in a half-hour,'" she told CBC News.
Rose said she stewed about the situation for six months before taking out the ad, which also reads: "Finding caring, honest people is like finding a needle in a haystack."
Rose said she has been receiving "awesome" feedback from the ad, and found the staff she needed by Wednesday.
The AOL transition from online access provider to online advertising is making waves and the latest one has dumped 2,000 jobs. This is in addition to last year’s 5,000 employee lay offs where AOL said would work to boost traffic to its ad-supported Web sites by giving away AOL e-mail accounts, software and other features once reserved for paying subscribers.
Employees at AOL's Dulles, Va., location have been speaking in hushed tones for weeks that big layoffs were coming. Last week speculation intensified when employees reported seeing large pallets of empty cardboard shipping boxes arrive at an AOL warehouse.
AOL Chief Executive Randy Falco told employees
"This realignment will allow us to increase investment in high-growth areas of the company -- as an example, we added hundreds of people this year through acquisitions -- while scaling back in areas with less growth potential or those that aren't core to our business."
Last year's lay offs were mostly in customer-service and marketing as AOL opted to stop producing and distributing its infamous free trial discs. The latest cuts were expected to affect employees across the board. While more reduction in staff is expected by year's end, severance packages are to include at least four months' pay. In addition, AOL recently announced it was moving its headquarters to New York to be closer to the media advertising industry.
Last month, AOL announced that it was consolidating its advertising operations to share innovations across the company and help potential advertisers more easily buy ads across AOL properties and third-party sites that have become part of the AOL network through various acquisitions.
Shares in AOL LLC's parent company, Time Warner Inc., (Charts, Fortune 500) dropped 17 cents to $18.81 in Monday trading.
My biggest hope for the valley is that we continue to have the focus, creativity and capital to reinvent our future and the future of technology.
My biggest fear is that we will get complacent and allow it to happen elsewhere. But after watching us adapt over and over again, I'm betting on hope.
- Paul Otellini, Intel Corp
My wish is that we will have the courage to continue to evolve and to collaborate... We can't rest on our laurels and lose the ability to collaboratively make dreams come true.
- John Chambers, Cisco Systems Inc
My greatest hope is that Silicon Valley will solve the current energy problem with the same genius that it has solved the problems of commercializing the integrated circuit, biotechnology and the Internet.
My greatest fear is that Silicon Valley will enter into a technological dark age...
- T.J. Rodgers, Cypress Semiconductor Corp.
Our greatest opportunity and challenge is to continue to foster a spirit of risk taking... The real genius of Silicon Valley, and the one thing it can not afford to lose as it matures, is this willingness to look for unconventional ways to solve new or historic problems.
MARKETERS WILL SPEND SOME $727 million on paid search and rich media ads on sports Web sites in the U.S. next year--up almost 33% from this year, reports eMarketer. And while advertiser spending on the Beijing 2008 Olympics will fuel much of that bump, the upward trend is slated to continue, pushing sports site ad revenues to top $1 billion by 2011.
The popularity of fantasy sports leagues has also drawn advertiser attention, as the fantasy games bring in between 15 and 18 million players each year. In 2006, marketers spent $150 million on branding and advertising deals with these online communities, and analysts are forecasting the dollars to continue to flow.
Streaming video is the only questionable component in the online ad spending forecast, as user adoption of online video for sports has been slow. The eMarketer report found that only 11% of consumers "were likely" to stream sports clips, compared to almost 50% that "were likely" to stream news clips and music videos.
Almost everyone uses email everyday to send a quick note to a friend or confirm weekend plans. But as you move from high school (or a non office position) into the corporate arena, the way you use email has to change. This is indeed one of the places where the little details truly matter. Ignoring capitalization may not be such a big deal for personal emails, but writing work related emails in this style is regarded as someone not meant to be taken seriously.
Email is an invaluable tool of communication with potential employers before the initial in-person interview. It is your chance to prove how well you can communicate in text. So while email can be a great tool in landing the job, it can also show prospective employers that you are an irresponsible, careless job prospect. Emails are meant to be short and get straight to the point of why you are corresponding. Always use a professional salutation, proofread your email three times, and run spell check before you hit "send."
Do Not
Use shorthand like: BCNU (be seeing you), BTW (by the way) or ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing).
Type IN ALL CAPS
Forget to spell check
Send attachments to recipients who wouldn't normally receive email from you unless they specifically ask for a attachment.
Spray & Pray - send the same email to multiple employers
Do
Include a clear & precise subject line
Clearly identify yourself as the sender and why you are writing to them.
Send the message only to relevant recipient
Make sure all links work properly
Set up an auto-reply if you are away – such as on weekends.
I’m clicking on Laughing Squid’s Writers & Publishers web links one by one. With each link I quickly look over it and self-doubt creeps in a little more and a little more and little more. That nagging little girl entity deep down inside of me that has never grown up and has never felt too sure of herself starts questioning my ability to be a Blogger let alone any kind of a ‘comedy of life’ online columnist.
I scan web sites like Infiltration, Annalee Newitz (Techsploitation) and Wikipedia’s biography of Hunter S. Thompson and I wonder if I’m full of unruly bravado boosting potential for a developing project (not only to myself but to others) that maybe, I have no right to do.
Much too often I find myself plagued by the same insecurities that have held me back in the past only to later find out I could have done it. Or I listen to stories from others who did what I wanted to do and I felt even worse for not following my heart and or desire. More than anything, I hate that nagging little girl that whispers I'm not good enough, not smart enough, or not talented enough, that no one wants to hear what I have to say, so why bother? Too often, I listened to those voices.
I’ve been able to lock her inside a small cabin but she never sleeps, she’s always there making un-approving faces at me, reminding me that she hasn’t gone away and doesn’t plan to. I’ve learned to silence her whiney voice most of the time, but she always manages to find an open window where she whispers insecurities. I can't even begin to imagine how many opportunities I have missed because I listened to her. It saddens me to think of where I could be right now if I only I had the courage and confidence to go forth and pursue my destiny with full vigor.
Fortunately I also carry a stronger entity than her -- she has always wanted to be out. She is the one that has held me up and forced me to keep walking in my most trying times. She’s been there all along, for all of my life rumbling rowdily, building and gaining momentum. I didn’t understand her. I thought she was a danger to me, I believed she was the one that needed to be silenced. I believed that she would cause me harm and didn’t want me be happy. Now I know she was the one trying to save me from the true evil of self-doubt.
Insecurities weigh us down or hold us back. Allowing feelings of self-doubt, feelings of not being good enough, feelings like we don't deserve success, or that success is not ours to achieve seems to burden women more than men. A friend and I were talking about this last night, after we climbed a 10,000 foot mountain with nothing but a bottle of water, a small pug dog and an over zealous health …. Ok, it wasn’t 10,000 feet but Runyon Canyon Park felt like it at the time.
Next to guilt, self-doubt is one of the most self-defeating personal emotions to carry. There’s a book named Living the Artist's Life by Paul Dorrell. This is excerpted from chapter eight of the book.
Every living artist I’ve ever worked with, and every deceased artist I’ve ever studied, have all shared one simple trait: each of them has gone through varying levels of self-doubt; each of them, at different times in their lives, has questioned the worth of their talent. No one that I know of has ever been exempt from this. For some, like the poet Sylvia Plath (who was also a talented illustrator), their spells of doubt and depression were mind-numbing, paralyzing, and, in the end, beyond their control. For others, like Picasso, those spells were nothing more than a minor dip on their emotional graph.
I feel that spells of self-doubt occur so that we will reassess our lives, and work. For some, these spells can virtually destroy them if they don’t keep their emotions in check.
I do feel that I have the tools at hand to conquer the demons that have always held me back. I look around me and I see opportunity at every turn.
The days of making excuses for why I can't are over. It's not that I’ve plugged into some super Matrix of overwhelming self-confidence -- I’m still battling the whiney little girl of self-doubt. It is because I no longer want to deny myself the possibilities that are laid out before me under a sunny California sky. There is something great out there for me, and it is my mission to find it, to claim it and make it mine. Anyone have any duck tape I could barrow? There’s a slow whispering leak I need to fix.
Soma Girls tv: Clean & pretty because girls never get dirty!
For every guy zine that does well, a new chick rag is born endorsing their site as a re-instilling of self-esteem and positive girl images -- while selling cosmetics and skin care at the same time. Soma Management LLC. is a digital media and entertainment company that has just given the world Somagirls.tv which focuses on (not so) original lifestyle content for young girls and women.
It has a fresh and clean look versus the loud obnoxious glitter and brat look that I’ve seen way too often. Not all girls are into loud, obnoxious and gaudy, so my first impression was that it deserved a thorough look see and read through; until you click into the Model Dairies. Thankfully the categories are filled with pod casts because you know us girls just ca ant ummm cant read none well.
Model Diary’s video cast shows the same stereotypical very thin women at a modeling shoot and shows just how easy being a model is.
Stand there
Lie there
Turn your head
Smile
Don’t smile
The pod casts than moves into a model that talks about her photo shoot in Hawaii and just how much fun it was as she strips off her bikini top. In my best little girl voice“Opps it fell, silly me.”
Health Tips shows a group of thin model like young women doing yoga on a beach with the beautiful ocean waves behind. Sadly, this was the best thing about the website. Nowhere did I find the pretty girl size 18 nor did I find the geeky girl blog who lists her height as 5’4 with interests that doesn’t include yoga, working out or makeovers.
Where are the career category, the sports category and definitely where the heck is the college and finance category? Oh wait that’s right, girls are meant to be pretty, fashionable, healthy size 3 and we lounge around in our pretty clothes reading the latest advice on How to Snag A Man.
Somagirls.tv promotes themselves as a venue offering young women a diverse site of interests but instead all it offers is a luxury spas looking website aimed at the majority of young girls anxieties of I don’t have enough money, I’m not thin and I’m not pretty enough.
As a form of important news offerings I got to read (yea, I actuly gots to reed) about how (from the website) “Pop star KELLY CLARKSON was staggered when a sexist music executive let her know he wasn't a fan of women writing songs.”
OMG! Life is over as we know it! Hand over the chocolates and give me a credit card I can’t handle this!
Come on! Where are the news stories about women like Anne Sweeney the Co-Chair of Disney Media Networks who was named one of Fortune’s 50 most powerful women in business? How about talking about Summer Williams, the Houston Texans cheerleader and aerospace engineer for NASA. Why are there no stories about the next generation of entrepreneur women who decided to make they’re own rules?
Instead, what somagirls offers is just anther Tween / Teen Happy Meal packed with travel, fashion, beauty and even (gag) anther celebrity category.... Oh yea, that’s whats young girls need, anther (It's fun to spend $200 on a blouse and or get drunk and stupid) celebrity category.
Ahhh I’m not being fair? Okay, the site does have some super fun downloadable games {sarcastic sneer}
Boom Voyage
Spot and his Friends
Blingo!
Face Card Deluxe, which will come in very handy for the next game
Runaway: A road Adventure
BleEp!
Where is Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft? Are they kidding me? What is this? A free how to be a Paris Hilton Carbon Copy Look-A-Like training center?
Through the use of interactive online video, somagirls.tv provides young women with enough anxieties to encourage depressing self-images and inspires them to live a life constantly reminded that they’re not good enough physically and life’s main purpose is to be pretty … oh and do yoga looking really cute on a beach.
“Our mission is to deliver a full and meaningful experience that enriches young women’s lives,” said E.C. Morgan, CEO and President, Soma Management.
Target age ranges: girls 12-24. It's never too early or late to "learn how to transform your old t-shirts in to sexy hot summer tank tops.
I have a variety of reasons why I love to drive from one city to the next. I love the solitary silence or the rock blaring music of my car. I love seeing ‘off the beaten path’ cafes and retail shops and I hate hunting for cheap airline prices.
Trying to find the best airline prices is so frustrating. Flight prices swing from reasonable to outrageous in the span of a few heartbeats to one day. I actually had to cancel a trip because I had waited too long for an acquaintance to make up her mind on rather she wanted to go or not.
How are you supposed to know when to book your flight?
Airlines have a new nemesis and the start up’s name is Yapta (Your Amazing Personal Travel Assistant). Yapta will soon let you not only track price changes on specific flights, but it will also help you get a refund for flights where the price drops after you've already bought the ticket.
The service is currently still closed in beta testing but is set to launch publicly on May 15th, 2007. Although there will be a central Yapta site for destination search engine searching, CEO Tom Romary said Yaptais not trying to be just another destination site to be frustrated with.Instead, the main way to use the service will be by downloading a plug-in for your browser that will let you tag any flight on most travel or airline Websites.
CEO Tom Romary said explains:
Our core idea is that people go to multiple Websites before making a purchase. We are allowing people to tag the trips they like, and then we track pricing for you.
Every time the price changes on the flights you have ‘tagged’, you will get an alert from Yapta. How is Yapta different?
Kayak gives you fare histories so you can try to guess what will happen in the future
Yapta will be the only commence who will continue tracking prices on a flight after you purchase it. Why bother?
“You can qualify for a refund even on a restricted ticket if it drops," explains Romary
There is an unknown consumer secret rule in the airline industry called the "guaranteed airfare rule." If you buy a ticket directly from an airline and the price of that ticket later drops, you are eligible for a refund or voucher (usually they give you the price difference minus a change fee).
The guaranteed airfare rule is a voluntary policy most airlines have agree on to calm angry customers and to create customer loyalty. Romary is very familiar with it because he used to be the VP of marketing at Alaska Airlines, where he oversaw the customer loyalty programs.
In just three months, his 275 beta testers have already accumulated nearly $30,000 in air travel savings.
Romary is philosophical about how the airline industry will react:
We recognize we are throwing a hand grenade into a big industry. There are airlines who get it and airlines who don’t in terms of building long-term relationships. Airlines looking to maximize short-term profits are not going to like us. Yield management systems are built to maximize revenue on a single flight, but the real win is building value over the long term. Look, as an airline I still keep your cash. I'm taking a short-term hit, and over the next 12 months I have the opportunity to turn that $100 coupon into a $500 ticket. I’ve locked in your loyalty.
The ecommence most affected and biggest competitors will be the online travel sites like Orbitz and Expedia. Yapta's trip-tagging software will work on those sites, but to qualify for the refunds you need to buy directly from the airlines' own Websites, not destination websites such as Priceline or Orbitz.
As Yapta evolves and learns the personal details about travel habits, they will be able to provide targeted travel-related ads that users are actually interested in. In addition, CEO Tom Romary plans to construct affiliate deals with airlines, and offer personalized alerts on travel deals where Yapta would get a small fee for every ticket sold. Future upgrades to the service could also include an alert system for frequent-flyer award seats.
The Yapta service for airline tracking and deal smoozing is based on a solid foundation and could expand to other areas of travel as well. The possibility to expand this type of service such as hotels, rental cars, and restaurants is a viable option. With prices in everything travel related skyrocketing, Yapta's ambition in putting the power of better travel decisions back in the hands of consumers is going to prove successful.
Logistics Careers in demand… Women are you listening?
Are we done yet? Are we done stereo typing which careers are for males and which careers are for females? Because if we are, there is a large opening of jobs available in Logistics and the industry would like to see more women roll in with they’re experience and skills.
Women (just as men are) are exceptionally suited to many of the aspects required for a career in Logistics. From coordinating and planning shipments to managing customer accounts and relations, qualified people and specifically women are being sought after.
Logistics careers still have an image problem with the illusion that it’s a Male industry and is inexorably “ men’s work”. I can understand why women may be discouraged. I’ve worked as an Assistant to a Warehouse Manager and I had to show warehouse employees that I was a professional first and women second. Once that was established, I rarely had a problem. People from marketing and human resource management backgrounds have an edge over people who have no experience in warehouse management and or logistics. The skills are especially useful because the work requires good communications and organization with large assembly of people. Responsibility extends from the arrival of goods to the planning, production and procurement of a shipment’s receipt by the final customer. The extensive organizational and qualitative requirement of logistics is often underestimated.
The new Nine Inch Nails' CD: "Year Zero" holds an interesting secret. The CD is thermally reactive; it turns white when it comes in contact with a heat source. This is something that could actually promote buying the CD as opposed to stealing it.
The CD is black when you open the case. Once you listen to the music and remove the disc from your player, the CD than turns white with black abstract looking designs.
In addition, Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor is using a multimedia scavenger hunt that leads fans to online destinations to promote the new "Year Zero" album, which is now available for purchase. However, when I went to the website, I wasn't able to locate the hunt. So maybe you have to purchase the CD in order to participate?
The marketing agency 42 Entertainment is behind the new form of entertainment, as Reznor perceives it instead of a CD promo. They’re also the agency that was behind 2005's "alternate-reality game" promoting the Halo 2 videogame for the XBox.
A source with knowledge of the project says the campaign forms the body of the "Year Zero" experience as reported by CNN
"It is the CD booklet come to life. It precedes the concept album and the tour. And it will continue for the next 18 months, with peaks and valleys." The source continues, "No one has assembled the full story yet. The new media is creating the story as it goes."
In 2005, web-savvy fans discovered that highlighted letters in the words of a NIN concert tour T-shirt spelled out "I am trying to believe." Web savvy fans added a .com to the five words and, click, located a thought provoking and eerie website.
I plugged into the Year Zero website and listened to the Year Zero music. It’s good - it’s very good.
The thermally reactive CD, thought provoking t-shirts and the scavenger hunt is a genuine piece of marketing genius. It entices fans and potential new fans into buying the CD. When was the last time you saw an artist put this much thought into the CD?
From: Tech Amok When you translate the binary on the back to a link it goes to this link. http://www.exterminal.net/. Which is a pretty neat little commentary that i think is at least partially directed at the RIAA. Also, the Website is host to a bonus track.
The entire “alternate reality game” for this cd lead to a secret “resistance” meeting that turned out to be a live show for 50 fans.
Why do so many people under age 35 consider life to be over at age 50? Type in the words Senior Citizens and Google spits out websites such as
Senior Citizens' Resources
USA.gov for Seniors
For Senior Citizens their children & caregivers
Old age
Arts and Crafts Projects for Senior Citizens
Programs and Services for Senior Citizens
Thoughtful Inexpensive Gift Ideas for Senior Citizens
These people are older and not every one of them is ready for the rocking chair and arts and crafts table. If I live to see my fiftieth birthday or beyond, I have no intentions of sitting back with Laurence Welk type music and a glue stick.
One of my favorite beach memories is when I had breakfast with an acquaintance at a diner famous for being known as Home of the Weasel. I am who I am and I'm not (most of the time) afraid to show it. So as with most weekend summer days, I was wearing a tank top which shows my tattoos. A gent who had experienced approximately 70 summers addressed me loudly and enthusiastically telling me how he had just got his first tattoo and ear piercing and that his very adult kids thought he was “just crazy.”
The smile that statement brought me could have lite up a cave fifty feet underground.
Being a “Senior Citizen” or retired means different things to different people. It can signify new beginnings, new explorations and adventures and a reason to change jobs into a potentially more riskier field using prior experience and expertise gained over many years.
A recently published TeliaSonera report on communication trends in Sweden found that Blogs are increasingly more popular among senior citizens age range. Close to 80 percent of the Over 60 sect sends digital photos or film clips to family and friends and as many as 28 percent stated that they will start to use a web camera during 2007. Additional surprising techie evolvements has been video games. One of Nintendo's goals was to sell the Nintendo Wii to non-gamers and a large number of the non gamers have been Senior Citizens.
So it should not be a surprise that more Senior Citizens are not only continuing to work past the retirement age, but are changing careers. Many colleges not only welcome “Senior Citizens” but offer options such as discounted and free career oriented classes. Where once a career industry may have seemed too risky to enter, someone over 50 can now decide to take the chance.
The American Association for Retired Persons (AARP) website, lists companies that employ and value the older American workforce; and the many of the career opportunities do not include the phrase “Welcome to Wal Mart”.
Not that there is anything wrong with WM, but after 50, I personally do not want to deal with a bunch of complainers for $7.50 an hour.
Most city's Department of Human Services also offer career opportunity advice, counseling and referrals to colleges and career training.
SeniorNet provides the over 50 adults a place to look for education, careers and where to access online email and resources. They also provide a variety of instructional materials and lists they're Learning Centers throughout the U.S.
WiredSeniors has its own search engine that links to senior specific sites. Communities include Seniors Helping Seniors and Discussion Forums.
When typed in the word 'Jobs' I received a page full of links that seemed full of nothing but junk. However, after reading the description and investigating a couple of the links, I found that some of the resources were authentic. What was especially nice is that Wired Seniors places an orange Seniors Friendly marker next to some of the best results.
If you are a Senior Citizen and discover you either need or want an additional income or a career change, feel secure that you can and the opportunities are out there. The truly nice thing about career opportunity searching is that you have more power to be choosy in whom you choose to work for.
In the spirit of all that is humor... and what inspired me to research and write this blog entry, I would like to share My Generation
The Zimmers
Brought together for a TV documentary, the troupe recorded their own version of The Who's
My Generation - complete with the legendary bad boy (and girl) guitar-smashing and drum-throwing. The video ends in true rock 'n' roll style, with Buster Martin, 100, the oldest working man in Britain, giving the middle finger to the camera.
CDs of Zimmer music is set to hit retail shops (in Britain) on the 28th of May and the profits will go to Age Concern. The documentary will be a three shows series called Power To The People which will air in May but only in Britain.
If I actually make it to the senior citizen age, I want to be wearing Knee high combat boots, pushing a flame painted walker and giving the middle finger, just like Buster.
Bizarre products, branding and advertising is the new movement in attracting consumers. Even wrong placement of movie ads such as Liongate’s ‘opps, we didn’t mean for Captivity to be advertised in public’ poster and billboard placements among Los Angeles streets.
You may think it’s bizarre but bizarre products, advertising and displays get attention and makes thousands upon thousands of dollars every year. Bizarre and usual increases a company’s brand awareness.
Aqua One Technologies Inc. are the creators of Fish 'n Flush and the product is a perfect example of bizarre brand awareness. They design, manufacture, and market water control and conservation technology for toilets. Not very exciting but necessary. I would have been interested in looking up a company called Aqua One or a business that specializes in water and conservation technologies. But with the Fish N Flush, I’m at they’re site learning more about them. They even have a tabk for the Christmas decorating nuts I mean enthusiast.
Being Spaces: Commercial living-room-like settings,
Tryvertising: Letting a customer try out the goods before buying inside the store.
Sympvertising: Trying a product before you buy it in everyday life situations
Three new words in product and company branding.
Starbucks is a great example of Being Spaces. Starbucks centers on providing a comfortable living room type environment that invites customers to sink into a comfortable sofa chair and read a book while sipping their Grande Double Mocha.
Many forms of mass media advertising is dying or at least dawdling down to a slow drip. In response to sluggish media response, companies are providing product samples in subtle ways such complimentary placements in hotels. A large scale Tryvertising: / Sympvertising comes from hotels that have partnered with luxury carmakers to offer high end cars to guests during their stay. Guests get to ‘test drive’ they’re next potential model car while they visiting or conducting business in one of their travel destinations.
Anther example of new brandmarketing and advertising is Pop-Up Retail establishments. The London Fashion Bus is a continually touring showroom with over 1,400 pieces of work from 40 clothing designers. The refitted double-decker bus brings unique designer pieces to areas throughout Britain. The Pop-Up Retail bus provides unique young designers clothing to a wider audience.
NIKE is doing what it does best by hitting the road with they’re Nike Runner's Lounge.
The lounge is a temporary sympvertising location where athletes can, get free massages, drinks and snacks and perhaps most significantly, test-drive Nike's line of running shoes.
Its first lounge was in Vancouver strategically located along Vancouver's Seawall, a major running route in the city and coincided with the preparations for the Vancouver half marathon.
New bizarre products, branding and advertising is everywhere, and here to stay in various shapes and forms. Original & bizarre is the new trend and aspiring consumers outside the big cities to try little pieces of city life. In addition, consumers now have access to the latest and greatest from happening urban metropolis.
The ideal situation is to have a boss who looks out for your interests during difficult times. This protectiveness is nurtured when the boss thinks of you not just as a competent employee but as a kindred spirit. If you want a higher quality relationship with the boss, develop an interest in something that also interests the boss. Ideally, this should be an activity that fits nicely into the work experience. For example, if your boss likes to talk business while playing golf, learning to play and enjoy golf. This will predictably bring a tighter business bond between you.
"To really understand your boss, you need to see him or her as a person, not just as a business contact," explains Dilip Phadke, Hewlett Packard's director of business development strategic initiatives.
Turning Something Old Into Something New In Advertising
Traditional advertising faces new technological challenges that are employing old techniques back into new revenue. The internet has given birth to many incredible features and has provided a multitude of methods for freedom of expression. All that was exciting and new in internet technology is now unremarkable. Only creative expression is interesting and unfortunately even the availability of original content is rare. So can we be surprised that some of the new trends for advertising and marketing have returned to their roots?
New print material advertising and marketing is making they’re way to consumers. One of the new European trends in Amsterdam from Gratis-Post.nl (Dutch language) will begin offering consumers in April a pack of five envelopes with free stamps that they can use for standard size letters.
The envelopes will carry advertisements on the back of the envelope, and the person requesting them also has to agree to receive advertising by mail or email from the participating companies. This is a completely new concept that is unique in Europe.
So while the internet is still a great place to advertise, advertising and marketing professionals need to put down the mouse and consider picking up every day possibilities.
